Jailhouse Strong: The Successful Mindset Manual (Unabridged)

Feb 20, Joe rated it really liked it. I thought the book was pretty good and covered bodyweight routines as well as the basic compound lifts. It stated that these are the main ways to get big and strong with far less focus on isolation exercises. Some of the workouts did sound quite interesting such as pyramids, reverse pyramids and using decks of cards so you never know how many reps you need to do next.

I think these kind of methods could help keep a workout more interesting, a bit like CrossFit so it is always different. I will cont I thought the book was pretty good and covered bodyweight routines as well as the basic compound lifts.

I will continue to follow my current planned exercise regime, but I will take some of the methods toward developing a one armed push-up, one armed pull-up and handstand push-ups. I also plan to include some neck training. It sounds very valuable to have a thick strong neck and if this is one of the first things ex-convicts look at to decide who to pick on, then I will try and decrease the chance that it is me.

Convict Conditioning also had a lot of focus and emphasis on the neck. Most people train all the other muscles but not the neck and it is a good way to know who works out for show and who really is tough or in my case, pretending to be.

It is an interesting book and I would recommend it on that basis, and to beginners but it would be far less useful for anyone particularly strong already I said strong, not necessarily just big. I am not the audience for this book. It contains lots of great ideas, but weak illustrative stories and no research to back them up. I need a little bit more, even though in theory I agree with most of what he writes.

Just not for me. Feb 07, Robert rated it really liked it. Good book for people who hate gyms I knew most of the exercises in the book, but learned a few new ones.
